Scholarship Program Policy
The West Rusk Alumni Association will provide scholarships
to assist certain qualified individuals with their continuous
education. This policy statement is provided by the Board
of Directors of the Organization to provide guidance regarding
the details of the scholarship program.
Funding
The Scholarship Program is funded principally through the
gifts of the friends of the West Rusk and London Schools.
Scholarships are to be awarded only from income from the Scholarship
Fund (not principal) and from donations specifically designated
from the donor for current scholarship awards. The principal
cap is set at $125,000.00 and only the funds above that amount
can be used for scholarships and other projects that the Board
of Directors decides to be necessary or beneficial to the
organization.
Selection of Recipients
The Scholarship Committee Chairman will present the recommendations
of the committee to the Board of Directors. The Board will
make the final selections.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
Each person desiring scholarship assistance is required to
complete his/her application in writing and submit the same
to the West Rusk Counselor by the date indicated on the application.
Scholarships shall be for:
A. Graduating high school seniors of West Rusk Consolidated
School District (West Rusk CISD) who have attended WRHS for
a minimum of two years.
B. Graduating high schools seniors from other schools who
are grandchildren of a person who has attended or who was
employed by the London School (1935 to 1965). Each school
year a maximum of six (6) scholarships in the amount of One
Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) will be awarded.
Current Status
Scholarship Calendar
1. All applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee
by April 1st preceding the particular school year in question.
2. The awarding of scholarships for the following school year
shall be completed by May 1st of the preceding school year.
3. This is a one-time scholarship of one thousand dollars
($1,000).
4. Scholarships will be paid to the college only upon submission
of proof acceptable to the Scholarship Committee that the
applicant has actually enrolled in the program specified in
the application. This should be a student ID and a schedule
of classes issued by the college or university. The applicant
must be registered for a minimum of twelve (12) hours of study
for the specified semester.
